On "For the Record," we feature an album that is meaningful to us each week— ranging in genres from indie rock/pop, to alternative, to whatever piques our interest. We chat about the artist's journey, how the songs flow together, our personal relationship to the music, and the secret meanings hidden in every song. Listening along to the full album as we chat, we tie in interviews, social media, and music video references to give a deep background on how the album came to be. We also bring up similar, often lesser known songs and artists that we think listeners will enjoy based off of that day’s album.
What Would You Play? is a talk show where the DJ's insert themselves into novel, random situations every week (you get a tattoo and your parents find out, you’re DJing your cousin's whack Bar Mitzvah, etc.) and curate a playlist that would serve as the soundtrack for that scene in a movie. Each DJ will talk about what they would do in the proposed scenario and why they would play the music they chose. If something extremely wild were to happen to one of us, we'd discuss that, and there is the possibility of bringing in friends as guests if their story is unique enough to merit air time.
Constant Headache *the* show for all your emo needs: first wave to fifth wave, Cap’n Jazz to Home is Where. We play great songs from great bands and talk with the great people who listen. If you like some tappy guitar riffs, midwestern angst, and songs with titles that are too long, we’re here to deliver all that and more!
From House to EDM to Hyperpop, Computer Music aims to take you on a journey of all things electronic. Its the kind of music that makes your parents say, "what ever happened to using instruments?!" Our show is music-centric, but hopes to inform and educate listeners on the electronic genre and its many niches as a whole during our discussions. We hope to feature guest DJs from across the city in order to bring light to fresh talent, while also looking back in time to the songs and artists that started it all. After all, what better way to study the past than looking at the genre that constantly attempts to define the future!
On Neurogarden, we play electronic music fit for study or sleep (or airports, if you're into Eno). Ambient, space music, trip hop, nature sounds—we play it all. Come to relax. Read. Stare at the ceiling, if you like. Neurogarden is music-heavy and a bit lighter on the talking, although we tend to discuss our song selections and, on occasion, conduct insightful dream analysis. As part of the show, you'll learn how to pronounce "Moog" and bask weekly in the atmospheric sound waves of synth from the sixties to now. Maybe you'll harmonize for Mort Garson's plants. Emerge enlightened, calm, or something like that.
Brought to you by WTBU's Promotions Department, "Fenway Frequencies" explores different artists performing in the Boston area each week. From the tiny artists you've never heard of to familiar favorites, we've got you covered. Follow along to hear student perspectives and interviews with artists heading your way!
WTBU Rewind is for the nostalgic adult wishing for that one pre-set station of their youth. We're sure to fill that void you didn't know was even there.
7 Degrees is a show about the 7 degrees of separation! We take different artists based on different things that happened in pop culture such as drama, new music, new books, campaigns or just random stories that have popped up in the past week. We connect these artists, books, models, influencers, etc. through different people that they know, all in 7 separations!
Every week, the In-Studio Department brings you a performance LIVE from the WTBU studio!
time / space is a radio show that invites listeners to explore the capabilities of music and memory. Though the format remains the same each week, the episode themes will vary in mood, and focus on a specific memory or situation, for example: sitting and thinking in your bedroom alone at 3am, looking through old pictures in your attic, or driving down the highway on your way to the beach with your best friends. Our episodes will be more than just “happy” or “sad” or “angry” playlists - we want to explore universal experiences and the power that we have as listeners to form a connection between music and retrospection. Each episode will begin with an explanation of that week’s theme, and talk breaks throughout the show will feature prepared personal narratives explaining the specific memories associated with the songs we chose. Occasionally, we will include guests to contribute their own memories and the songs linked to them. Ultimately, our goal is to allow the music to capture a specific moment in time (and space) - and we hope that listeners reflect on their own attachments to the songs chosen as well.
“The Wheel” is a show about the evolution and cyclical nature of music trends. On our show we will explore the tendency of musicians to take inspiration from and build off of previous ideas. We are interested in showing the range of musical concepts and how different artists can interpret the same basic trend in their own way. Each week will investigate a different topic ranging from artists inspiring other artists, band composition, reinvention of genre, use of instrumentation, and more. We hope to highlight different musicians’ attempt to “reinvent the wheel” by adding their own flair and putting a new spin on pre-existing notions. Segments during talk breaks include The Weekly Wheel—hosts spin a wheel of conversation topics relating to the week’s theme to spark discussion—and our rotating wheel of guests that will weigh in on the subject of the week. The aim is to reach music enjoyers and wheel lovers alike. Our hope is that listeners will hear some familiar favorites while also being exposed to new music in the same vein.

WTBU the Basement is a combination of prerecorded performances and interviews from local Boston area bands. Last semester we played local bands on air who were scheduled to perform at Boston venues in the upcoming week. Any week that is not prerecorded we plan on playing all the local bands in a regular on-air broadcast.
Each week on Film Fidelity we watch and review a film randomly selected by our spinning wheel of handpicked movies. Whether it be The Shining or Despicable Me 3, we play selected songs from each movie’s soundtrack in between our lively debates over how many Letterboxd stars it should receive or, for example, whether Twilight is camp or just bad (It’s camp). We will also pick films we’ve never seen before so we can come to the studio with fresh thoughts! Callers can also join in by suggesting movies to be put on the wheel and giving their opinions. Come join us as we argue over Spring Breakers or In the Mood for Love or Barbarian or RRR or Zola or… you get the point. See you there!

At FACEPUNCH!!!, we play experimental music. The show usually takes on that experimental format. Each week we have weird conversations on whatever weird stuff is going on either in the world, on social media, or in our lives. Sometimes we do some kind of comedy bit, spoken word over bird field recordings, or live coverage of a concert through the phone. We like to discuss recent music coming out, shows or movies we’ve recently seen or anything we’re anticipating, and we're not afraid to rant about something for 20 minutes. FACEPUNCH!!!
On To The Core we explore and dissect a new “core” subgenre of alternative music, covering which bands shaped the genre, fan favorites, and everything in between. Every week we’ll spend two hours listening to a new subgenre ranging from hardcore, metalcore, skramz, and grindcore, to slowcore, post-punk, and emo. Plus we’ll spend plenty of time gatekeeping, arguing over genre labeling, defending our favorite bands, dunking on the ones we hate, and covering niche band drama. Listen along as we get to the core of it! (follow us @wtbutothecore on instagram!)

We will go on deep dives into the meanings and lyrics of the original tracks and analyze deep Taylor lore (old relationships, album theories and more). Although the hosts are first foremost swifties, they also listen to a wide variety of music, so expect playlists as eclectic in genre as blondie’s discography itself. No Jake Gyllenhaal or John Mayer fans welcome.
On “ISSA VIBE” we play a variety of genres and songs including R&B, hip hop, rap, and jazz featuring both new and established artists locally, nationally, and internationally. With these vibes, we discuss new music releases, news from the industry within the genres, diversity in American music and its influence internationally or vice versa, and concerts (focusing on those in Boston and the surrounding areas so our listeners are aware of up and coming/indie or other artists they are fans of). We bring guests on to showcase their perspective of the vibes and discuss that week’s topics as well as connect the vibes to their personal lives, play fun improv games, or ask questions that we come up with ourselves.
